Woke mama: Aly

Want to know WTF a Woke Mama is? Each week, we’re introducing awesome women who are making the world a kinder place, one happy baby at a time.

Name: Aly @AllMumsTalk
Age: 30
Babe(s): Lucas Francis 08.01.2014,
Baby no 2 due 30th of August 2017

What does being a Woke Mama mean to you?

Being a real mama. Real motherhood is not about good pixels in the online, but striving for a healthy balance: some days when the kitchen sink is empty are great, so are other days when the dirty dishes are taking over the house.

What made you choose gentle parenting? And what is your favourite aspect of it?

It’s the example I got from my parents. I like to believe they did a good work with me 😉

Most awesome moment so far?

When my toddler said “I love you, mummy” for the first time out of the blue.

Biggest struggle so far? How do you cope with stressful moments?

The lack of sleep. I now tend to accept help when someone is offering. We raise each other.

If going back to work how will you juggle gentle parenting life?

Already working; recently went through a career conversion and I find it harder to work for myself and from home.

But the child’s needs will always come first before conference calls and deadlines. Actually I’m still working on this… talking about the balance we need to find in our lives 😉

Any advice you would give to new mums?
This too shall pass. Enjoy the momentum.

What’s on your soundtrack to your first year of being a Woke Mama?

The wheels on the bus — this will haunt me for a while, that’s what the toddler keeps singing…
