Want to know WTF a Woke Mama is? Each week, we’re introducing awesome women who are making the world a kinder place, one happy baby at a time.
Name & age: Danie,30
Baby: Imara, 14 months
What does being a woke mama mean to you?
Being a woke mama to me means doing exactly what you think is right for you and your baby.
Most awesome moment so far?
Being able to say that I’m a mama. I still don’t think it’s sunk in just how lucky I am to be able to say that.
Biggest struggle so far? How do you cope with stressful moments?
Returning to work and having to deal with the negative comments surrounding my return “How could you leave your beautiful little girl at home?” “She’s too young” “She’ll resent you”… each comment made my sense of guilt grow.
I managed to flip the negativity on its head and now embrace my return. I’m back to work so I may as well do a bloody good job whilst I’m there and make my daughter proud.
I count down every hour and walk home like I’m walking on hot coals and at the end of the day when I get that little pair of arms round my neck, I know I’m doing OK.
And I deal with stressful moments by spending quality time with my daughter: I put music on and we dance in the living room!
Any advice you would give to new mums?
Do you. Do what’s right for you and your baby.
