Want to know WTF a Woke Mama is? Each week, we’re introducing awesome women who are making the world a kinder place, one happy baby at a time.

Name & age: Breanna, 24
Kids: Kairee, 5 (2012) and Aaliyah, 1.5 (2016)

What does being a woke mama mean to you?

Continually evolving and changing, being open to new ideas always. Learning from your mistakes daily.

Choosing what’s best for your children even when it’s not easy or convenient. Choosing love over all.

What made you choose gentle parenting? And what is your favourite aspect of it?

I chose gentle parenting because it is what comes most natural to me, anything else just wouldn’t feel right!

The best aspect by far is the deep bond I’ve developed with my children, and the love we share and exchange daily.

Most awesome moment so far?

I honestly feel like I think I’ve experienced the most awesome moment and then something else happens that feels just as good or better.

Getting to watch my tiny humans learn and evolve everyday while developing their own little personalities is the best.

Biggest struggle so far? How do you cope with stressful moments?

Patience, I struggle with patience more than anything. I’m very introverted and the constant noise and needs to tend to can be overwhelming.

I cope with stressful moments by taking time to have quiet moments with myself to go within and remind myself that I’m dealing with souls who are new to earth and they need me to teach and guide them on the way to becoming who they are.

I don’t have time to be impatient or selfish, at least not in front of them, because they are always watching.

How do you juggle work with gentle parenting?

I work nights, as a dancer and it’s exhausting sometimes. I’ve been back at work for a little over a year and I’ve found the best way to juggle it is to make sure I’m taking time to take care of my mind and body.

I’ve learned that self care is the most important tool when trying to juggle and balance working and parenting.

Any advice you would give to new mums?

Keep going! It gets easier and as long as you are doing your best, you are doing amazing!
