Woke Mama: Selen

Want to know WTF a Woke Mama is? Each week, we’re introducing awesome women who are making the world a kinder place, one happy baby at a time.

Name & age: Selen, 28

Kids: Nasri, 5 years old & Ezra, 7 months

What does being a woke mama mean to you?

A mama who loves herself and doesn’t compare how she mamas her babies to others. A mama who enjoys life and reflects happiness and to her babies creating memories and the best childhood for your babies.

Most awesome moment so far?

I have days when I randomly realised wow, I’m a mother of two! I grew these beautiful boys — I DID THAT!

Biggest struggle so far? How do you cope with stressful moments?

I think the hardest time was when my anxiety sky-rocketed during pregnancy and having baby blues after Ezra.

Luckily I found some mamas on social media who experienced the same. I WASN’T ALONE ANYMORE.

How do you juggle work with gentle parenting?

I went back recently. The hardest thing is leaving them, but luckily work was able to be flexible with my hours which meant I was able to be home to my boys and spoil them all evening with story time and a billion goodnight kisses before bed.

Any advice you would give to new mums?

My advice will be.. create memories and the best childhood for your babies. Let them be little and laugh with them as much as you can.

What’s on your soundtrack to your first year of being a Woke Mama?

Sara Tavares – “One Love” is my everyday get go track, I always listen before I start my day!
