Woke Mama Addie

Addie Fisher & Greyson Fisher - Old World New

Want to know WTF a Woke Mama is? Each week, we’re introducing awesome women who are making the world a kinder place, one happy baby at a time.

Name & age: Addie, 29

Baby: Greyson, 2

How did you end up doing gentle parenting?

It was a natural follow up to natural birth. The groups I’m in do a great job of sharing a wealth of information.

What does being a woke mama mean to you?

Caring for, advocating for, and protecting all people, especially those who are different from us and need it.

Most awesome moment so far?

My son learning sign language and speaking his first Italian words. I want him to be multilingual so that he can be open to more in the world, and openly communicate with people everywhere.

Biggest struggle so far? How do you cope with stressful moments?

Postpartum depression. It was the cause of me ending our breastfeeding journey because I didn’t recognize the signs early enough. Working though it was another awesome moment, and has taught me so much.

Any advice you would give to new mums?

Ask for help because it takes a village. It’s hard to find a village sometimes, but get out, make friends, go on play dates. Also, the sun is a natural mood booster. Use it!

What’s on your soundtrack to your first year of being a Woke Mama?

I’m listening to podcasts to feel connected to the world since I’m a stay at home mom LOL! The Friend Zone, The Read, Jade & X.D., Lamar Burton Reads, The Breakfast Club, and more…
