Want to know WTF a Woke Mama is? Each week, we’re introducing awesome women who are making the world a kinder place, one happy baby at a time.

Name & age: Janhvi, 30

Kids: Jules Zen, 18 months

How did you end up doing gentle parenting?

It seemed like such a natural choice! My husband and I did a hypnobirthing course just as we entered the third trimester, and I was doing a lot of yoga and meditation at home.

After such a gentle and beautiful pregnancy, the path simply continued to treating Jules this way once he was on the outside.

The more reading I did, the more it all made sense. The Conscious Parent by Shefali Tsabury was also a huge eye opener for me.

What does being a woke mama mean to you?

Leading by example and showing Jules how beautiful life can be. I guard his energy with a love as fierce as only a mother can, but still encourage him to have his own experiences and make his own way.

Ultimately, he is part of the new generation of children that will help raise the vibration of this world, and I’m damn well gonna support him in doing so!

Biggest struggle so far? How do you cope with stressful moments?

Jules is an incredibly determined little soul, which inevitably can cause a bit of stress when we have time restraints or just need to get something done! In these situations, I always ask myself if it’s urgent. If it can wait, so can I.. And I immerse myself in what Jules is doing. If we need to get in the car to make a flight on time, I explain this and when Jules shows resistance, I stay calm and tell him I get him, I understand him, but we gotta practice some teamwork right now.

How do you juggle work with gentle parenting?

Although I’m not working now, I did briefly step back into the corporate world. I quickly learned that the skills I picked up whilst consciously parenting Jules could be transferred to any scenario with any people.

Overall, I was calmer, more focused and more able to prioritise and make better decisions!

Any advice you would give to new mums?

Happy mama, happy baby! Your intuition will only be razor sharp once you feel spiritually, mentally and emotionally aligned.

Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup!
