Werrrkin mamas listen up. 👇 One of our fav grammers who happens to be a mum @SarahAkwisombe 💚 just lost work with a brand cus she wasn't afraid to be herself. The same authentic self the brand had said they were "excited to work with" - and then backed out when she swore on her last post. 😶 Because this is apparently the 1950s. Yep, it turns out mum bloggers should step in line, be polite, suck it up and shut up if they want the work. 🤮 . Firstly, they hadn't done their research - she says she's "no bullshit" in her bio ffs. Secondly, the post was "f*ck you, pay me" in regards to companies not paying freelancers on time... yet another kick in the ovaries to women who often (and more so than men) HAVE to take flexible work - and earn less* - to support and fit around their kids.🍼And thirdly, it's a reminder that some people think a mainstream "perfect", stereotypical stepford wife ⏩mother⏩ is where your identity ends. . Just maybe tho, the corporate world should grow up & wake up to the fact that the millenial mum freelancers AND consumers who keep their businesses afloat aren't stepford robots. We are tired, angry, smart, confident, creative, caring, passionate people who give a shit - and will spend our dollar or our skills somewhere else if U don't get us. . This is our time. Fuck you, pay us.👁💚 . . . *By the time your first kid is 20 years old, mums earn around 30% less on average than similarly educated fathers (Institute for Fiscal Studies), with the pay gap boosted by mothers in part-time jobs or taking a break from work. Women returning to work earn about 1/3 less than men, taking a 12-32% pay cut (according to @changethechat). And while women earn more as freelancers, they still earn 20% less than men. . . 😂 or like me last night, wedged 127 Hours style between a hungry newborn and a sweaty toddler.. seriously bed sharing (done safely obv) is one of my faaaaav things about parenthood. 💚 . Of course I was so psyched tho when iyra decided a few weeks after zia was born that she would sleep in her own room. 🙏 The first night i cried (ikr 🙄) cus i missed her, but soon got into the extra space and lack of flying toddler feet towards baby. 👾 . Sigh. Holidays here we come! Hope yawl get some sleep for Christmas. We just had the worst night yet, since having 2 babies (3 months + 2 years 4 months = KO). The old classic where one falls asleep the other one wakes, all night. My face is 🧟‍♀️ rn. . There's no Zzz but zombies in this house cus they're full of cold, with pristine timing of course - JUST as our final month of "good sleep" starts before the dreaded 4 month sleep regression kicks in (it was bad for iyra so am assuming worst for Zia, tho know it may not be!) 😱. And obv just before Christmas. . I know I'm tough enough to deal with it cus this is take 2. But like first time round, nobody can prepare you for the levels of sleep deprivation with 2. My brain is no longer mine, let alone my body. Who am i and where has my sense of humour/empathy/hope gone? Maybe they'll be under the tree. . One thing keeping me going is my long suffering friends and family responding all hours on WhatsApp. As if they dont have troubles of their own. They reminded me anger is normal. Insanity is temporary. And it's just a tiny blip on the scale of madness that is motherhood. . And like everything we just got to let it go, not blame ourselves and start again today - if anything to make room for all the good energy that awaits us this Christmas.
